Rainforests near Tamarindo Costa Rica

Tamarindo, Costa Rica is located in Guanacaste which is the driest part of Costa Rica located on the northern Pacific. From December till May it does not rain but maybe two or three days in Tamarindo. From May through August, we will usually have sunny days and maybe an afternoon or evening shower once or twice a week. (The summer is a perfect time to rent a house or Condo!)

Rustic cabins and amazing Costa Rica gardens

This past weekend we decided to enjoy some cooler weather and the rainforest so we went to La Carolina Lodge in San Migual, Costa Rica. La Carolina Lodge is a rustic guesthouse on the eastern slopes of Volcano Tenorio. They are located in a less traveled region of northwestern Costa Rica, amidst sunny jungles and volcanic mountains. The drive from Tamarindo, Costa Rica is 2.5 to 3 hours with only the last 15-20minutes on a dirt road. The lodge sits on 170 acres, nestled in rainforest and fed by a freshwater river. They have a warm, friendly, Costa Rican staff and excellent home-cooked meals. The lodge is also a full-time cattle ranch and farm. The food is truly amazing and while we were there, we enjoyed fresh chicken and amazing pork all from their farm. We also enjoyed incredible fresh fruit juices for breakfast and throughout the day.
Probably the most impressive aspect of the lodge is their hottubs right along the river. Every day, the hot tub is emptied and refilled with the cool clean river water coming down from the Costa Rican volcanos. As the water fills the hot tub, it travels around a wood fire to heat up and fill the natural stone pool. The temperature is just right after a day of hiking or horseback riding. The warm water and sounds of the river will immediately relax you and your muscles.

Visiting Costa Rica offers so many possibilities and different landscapes. Come visit Tamarindo and if you are interested in roughing it a bit, we can help you with an excursion to La Carolina Lodge.
